Guitar Straps
If you're like me, the last part of your gear you think about is your strap. When I get up onstage, I'm thinking about sound check, tuning, and my songlist, and I just kind of throw on whatever strap is available. But when you're playing for several hours, it becomes painfully evident if you have a lousy guitar strap. I've always found nylon straps to be particularly uncomfortable, and many leather straps are only modest improvements. What's worse, most leather straps are built for players under 6 feet tall, so often when I'd use what appeared to be a decent strap, the wide support part of the strap wouldn't actually reach over my back (I'm 6'6"), leaving the thin part of the strap to spend two hours digging into my shoulder.

Well, at last year's Spirit West Coast, Bruce Adolph of Christian Musician magazine handed me a Long Hollow Leather strap, and despite its apparently simple design (a 3" Softy, pictured below), I immediately noticed three things: First, the soft leather easily made it the most comfortable guitar strap I had ever slung over my shoulder. Second, the wide part of the strap actually reached up and over my shoulder. And third, this was the first strap I'd used in recent memory that had the strap button holes cut properly. You know how you can sometimes spend 5 minutes just getting your strap to fit on the strap button that came with your guitar's pickup? It's only a centimeter or so of difference, but when the hole is actually cut properly, it just slips right on. Needless to say, I was immediately impressed with these straps, and after several hours with a bass guitar hanging off one, I realized what I had been missing all along. If you're tired of your ratty old nylon strap and are looking for a high-quality, comfortable strap, I cannot recommend these highly enough.

Long Hollow Leather Strap Models:

Softy - This is the strap I use. The suppleness of the leather makes it the perfect strap for a two-hour set with a heavy 6-string bass.

Premier - These straps feature premium domestic belting leathers and cool tooling patterns.

Pinnacle - These use domestic and European vegetable-tanned leathers, and feature a smooth leather lining.

Long Hollow Leather makes a huge variety of straps, so if you're looking for a particular strap that you don't see below, please contact us:
