Euphonic Audio also recognizes the value of portable gear, which makes a huge difference for those of us who aren't 18 anymore and don't feel like lugging around huge amps. Finding lightweight and portable equipment is a particular challenge if you're a bass player, since bass amps typically use larger speakers and heavier amplifiers than you find in acoustic guitar amps. EA's enclosures use a poplar plywood instead of the usual birch, a weight reduction of 40% in wood alone. Their drivers employ weight-saving designs, including coaxial and whizzer configurations as well as neodymium magnets in many of their speaker cabinets. Moreover, every Euphonic Audio cabinet and combo amp has integrated side handles. This is true of a number of amps besides EA, but have you ever seen those 75 lb. amps with nothing but a little plastic handle on the top? What's that all about? If you're going to lift anything heavy, you need to be able to grab it with both hands. Of course, with EA's 800-watt combo amp, this isn't even necessary, as it ships with telescoping handles so you can roll them where they need to go without breaking your back. Euphonic Audio's combination of durability, portability and tone reminds me a lot of our top-selling AER amps, but with a much more robust and versatile lineup of products for bass players. If you're looking for portable bass gear with killer tone and the guts to drive a loud stage, check out what EA has to offer: Euphonic Audio Amp Heads: iAmp 200 and 500 - The rackmountable Euphonic Audio iAmp series is a classic case of products loaded with features you may never need, but if you do end up needing them, boy are you glad they are there. I say this because the iAmps actually sound incredible just plugging straight in, which is how I usually use them when I'm playing around in the shop or out onstage. But even though the naked tone of these amps sounds great, it's worth noting their coolest feature: Incredibly robust parametric EQs. The amp heads come with 4 EQ presets, so if you don't like fiddling with parameters, you can boost anything from the low lows to the high highs with just one little button push. But if you do want a bit more control, the parametric EQ (nearly fully parametric) is about as good as it gets. There are four bands, each with a level control, a frequency slider, and a Q switch (you can choose either a 1 or 1.5 octave bandwidth), all of which cover the full 20-20 audible spectrum. I also like the graduated gain level and clip lights on all the iAmp models--I've said it in many places, but properly setting your gain is such a basic part of good tone, it's surprising that more amp makers don't make stuff like this standard. The iAmp 200 and iAmp 500 also feature a tuner send, headphone jack (with output control), a controllable DI send with pre & post EQ settings, and an effects loop. 3.5 x 14.5 x 9. 13 lbs. iAmp 800 - The iAmp 800 is the big brother to the iAmp200 and 500. It boasts all the same features as other iAmp models, most notably the same robust EQ section, but it adds a choice of series or parallel effects loops, as well as graduated clip lights. If you're looking for a bit more guts, this one gives you 800 watts of power--even 1000 watts at 2 ohms. 3.5 x 16 x 10. 19 lbs. Wizzy 112 - The Wizzy 112 is EA's most affordable--and lightest--cabinet, but it drives home the point that saving money doesn't always mean sacrificing great tone. The full-range driver delivers satisfying lows (down to 45hz) in an eminently portable package. 250 watts at 4 ohms. 17 x 17 x 13. 29 lbs. Wizzy 112 Powered Extension - This cabinet is identical to the regular Wizzy 112, except that it's designed to be an extension cabinet for the Wizzy 200 combo. It even features the same power amp as in that combo, so you don't need a speakon cable to connect amp and speaker--a simple XLR mic cable will do the trick. This powered speaker makes it easy to build a stack if you're already playing through the Wizzy combo. 200 watts. 21 x 17 x 12. 43 lbs. CxL 112L - The CxL 112L, like all Euphonic Audio amps, boasts remarkably flat frequency response. But this can also crank if you need it to, with a power rating of 350 watts and 130db sound pressure level. It also goes lower than any other EA speaker. When paired with the right amplifier, this cabinet delivers the kind of tone you wish you'd been hearing all along. 19 x 17 x 15. 44 lbs. NL 210 - Using what is essentially the same enclosure as the CxL 112L, the NL 210 packs two 10" speakers and a separate compression tweeter. What sets this cabinet apart, though, is its power handling: 500 watts at 8 ohms. 19 x 17 x 15. 44 lbs. Euphonic Audio Combo Amps: iAmp 200 Combo - The iAmp 200 combo pairs EA's iAmp 200 with the Wizzy 112 cabinet, for what is certainly one of the lightest full-range combo amps anywhere. It doesn't get quite as low or as loud as the iAmp 800 combo, but I have to say that I've never heard a 1x12 combo amp with the kind of accuracy I hear in EA's 200 /Wizzy combo. 21 x 17 x 13. 44 lbs. iAmp 800 Combo - To cut right to the chase, this is simply the best combo amp I've played, and I've played a bunch. It combines the iAmp 800 with the CxL 112 cabinet. The CxL's 38hz low-end response and the iAmp's 800 watts under the hood give you plenty of guts, accurate and easily-controlled tone, and all this in a box that weighs only 58 lbs. Onstage, this is one of those rare amps that just makes your bass sound better. Its combination of clarity, transparency and great lows make it a joy to listen to--for you or anyone else in your band. I've used it in live worship in a room with over 400 people, and it comfortably drives the room without even going past 5 or 6 on the master volume. It of course has the aforementioned telescoping handle, and it also features a nifty front kickstand if you need to aim it up a bit. 23 x 17 x 15. 58 lbs.
