Larrivee D-40R

  • For some reason, this has never been much of a dreadnought shop. I mean yes, we've sold probably a hundred or so new dreads over the years, but that's out of thousands of guitars. Most folks tend to go for OOO / OM / MJ kinds of guitars, I suppose.

But this Larrivee D-40 in Rosewood is a major exception to that "rule". Think about it:  You get the throwback tone and aesthetic of the 40-series guitars, a perfect match for a dreadnought. And you get a soid Rosewood guitar well under $2000. It sounds great, it plays great, and it's our bestselling drreadnought, with fat lows and a rosewood ring. What's not to like?

Simply the best playing and sounding guitar I’ve ever played

I’ve played a fair number of Martins, Taylor’s and other guitars in my journey to the D40R. I find the neck is smooth and silky and very easy to play whether it’s finger picking, lightly strumming or digging with a pick the sound rings true. It can be played soft and has a delicate sweet sound or you can dig in with a pick and it rings out with a loud and balanced voice. Bottom line fit, finish, playability and sound are the best I’ve ever played.
