Northwood R70-000

Please note—this guitar arrived late in our moving sale, so I didn't have time to take a photograph of this particular one. It's as beautiful as the one pictured here.

You don't have to spend much time wandering about the nooks and crannies of this Shoreline Music website to discover that we really love Northwood guitars. We've been selling Mini-Jumbos and OMs for more than 15 years, and many, many of these have found happy homes.

But a recent custom order for one of John's deep-bodied 000 models really opened my ears—it had all the stuff I love about Northwoods:  Rich sustain, note clarity, depth, projection, they're all there, but in an eminently playable short-scale package. So, of course, I had to start ordering more. The rosewood in this particular guitar gives it the expected lushness, and the 70-series trim (mostly just no abalone on the soundboard) saves a couple hundred bucks compared to the standard R80. This is a sweet guitar, and you're going to love it.

A Great Guitar from a Great Store

I originally purchased another guitar but wanted something a little more special. So when I called John to explain that I would like to return it to order a custom-made guitar, there was no hesitation. As advertised, John honored Shoreline Music's generous return policy - no questions asked. Then I placed the order for my R70-14-OOO, and finally had it in my hands a few months later. And it was worth the wait.

Not having had a chance to play with it personally, I didn't know how it would sound in person. But the moment I started playing with it, it didn't disappoint whatsoever. Though it is a smallish bodied guitar, it generates a rather full sound with great resonance, clarity, sweet overtones, and surprisingly nice low end. It is what I always imagined an Engelmann/rosewood combination would produce, but I hadn't found it on any guitar ... until now. And after three months, my R70 sounds even more amazing as an all around guitar. It is a delight to hold and its sweet notes make it difficult to put it down. I recommend it without any reservation.
