LR Baggs Five.O

The L.R. Baggs FIVE.O ukulele system is small, light-weight, and best of all, specifically tuned to track the uke’s natural dynamics and its unmistakably unique voice.

The system combines a custom version of our award winning Element undersaddle pickup with a miniature endpin preamp, soundhole mounted volume control and is powered by a 3 Volt coin cell battery. The entire system weighs less than one 9 Volt battery and tucks away neatly inside the small instrument for a non-invasive installation.

The pure, all-discrete electronics are voiced for the most accurate frequency response you have ever heard, so plug into the FIVE.O and enjoy the performance you have been waiting for.

Great pickup!

I installed the Five.0 in place of another brand's passive pickup, so the installation was rather easy. It took about 45 minutes to install, since the endpin jack was already reamed, and I have a sander to bring down the saddle to the right height. The tone is very accurate! The other brand was a tad too bright, but the Five.0 is warm, and does not pick up other sounds, like your sleeve moving around the bout. I love having a volume control at my fingertips too! At first, I was concerned about how I was going to replace the lithium battery when it needs replacing, but luckily it is velcro mounted. I can just pop it out of the sound hole, and change it with freedom.

Super Clarity, Relatively Easy Installation

Love the sound quality and dynamic range of the pickup. Installation was reasonably straight-forward, but it does help to have the correct tools to do the job right, especially drilling the 1/2-inch end pin hole using a proper brad point drill bit, and taping the surface, if drilling veneers. Otherwise, mounted easily after that, though does take a bit to get the depth of the stop nut correct so the jack cover nut fits correctly. This one is installed in a Yamaha Guitarlele (6-string ADGCEA) and provides a really warm and clear response through all octaves. Take your time filing the bridge flat and measure the adjustment several times to get the correct amount to remove to accommodate the pickup wire (I used a 0.5mm lead to mark the initial depth, then after laying the pickup wire in the bridge measured a second time to determine the offset (which was roughly 0.5 mm) then transferred that amount to a straight line parallel to the bottom edge on both sides. Used 200 grit sandpaper on a flat surface to slowly wear the bridge down evenly to the marked limit.

Don't think a picture does much for this one since the only part you can see is the end pin jack. Everything else is closely wired out of sight and attached to the side body with the furnished adhesive wire holders. The battery unit fit on the fretboard tail inside just above the serial number (it uses hook and loop), and the volume control just sits inside the top edge of the sound hole. Easily removable for battery replacement by loosening the strings enough to push them aside. Very discreet.
