Muriel Anderson is best
known for her classical fingerstyle performing skill--after all, she did
win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. The Chicago Tribune writes:
"Acoustic guitarist Muriel Anderson...has justifiably gained a reputation
as one of the world's best, and most versatile, guitar instrumentalists."
The Miami Herald echoes her praise: "She displays a genuine joy of
music that is truly contagious." Muriel credits many of her mentors
and friends, especially
Christopher Parkening and Chet Atkins.
She played bluegrass with the Wildwood Pickers for 6 years and now performs
solo, as well as with French guitarist Jean-Felix Lalanne, and also with
cellist Julie Adams. She also teaches at Belmont University in Nashville
and hosts a cable TV show
produced by Downers Grove TV called "Off Stage". And
Muriel coordinates and performs in the All-Star Guitar Nights, evenings
where the best in the business share the stage.
I find Muriel's music to be marked by a rich versatility and depth of voice. She
moves easily between the classical canon, fingerstyle covers of 70's pop
favorites, vocal lullabies, traditional American bluegrass and fingerpicking
music, and more. And all this from a nylon string guitar.
As with many of the artists we highlight here, you may buy music directly from the Muriel, or you can preview and download the music from the iTunes Music Store. If you do not have iTunes installed, you can click here to download it.
