We recently took delivery of a large number of Avalons—some custom, some standard builds—and this Ard Rí guitar was my favorite of the bunch. It really had me wondering why it took me so long to get a Walnut Avalon here in the shop.
The Bastogne Walnut in this guitar is of course gorgeous, and, like all Avalon Ard Rí, the build is impeccable, elegant, and beautiful. But the tone is what you need to check out here. When done right, walnut lends a chunkiness across the audible spectrum that can be really delightful—walnut McIlroys and Brooks are some of our most popular models for just this reason.
But this guitar really benefits from the Avalon L-sized body. Whereas smaller, lighter, airier guitars can see their tone fattened up with the Walnut chunkiness, this model already boasts a beefy tone, so it gets just a little bit of character squeezed into the mix, for a very satisfying take on an already great guitar. You're going to love it.
