The 317 is the first Grand Pacific guitar that Taylor has sent us. A funny thing I discovered while creating this listing: On paper, this guitar is identical to a 314. Same depth, width, etc. But, of course, looking at them, they're clearly different instruments.
I feel like I'm going to spend a lot of time saying this over the next year, but just because Taylor uses the word "dreadnought" in the marketing descriptions of these guitars (and there is, of course the obvious resemblance to a classic slope-shouldered dreadnought), you should not expect them to be boomy. The Grand Pacific just ain't a boomy guitar. But to my ear, that's a selling point. The lows are balanced and just a bit airy. Low mids don't dominate, and the low lows are clean and not woofy. It's a really satisfying tone—pretty similar to the Grand Auditorium, but just different enough to make an appealing alternative.
Another selling point—all Grand Pacific guitars, even the lowest-priced 317 you see here, get the sweet new Western Floral guitar case. I've included a picture below.
