I think it's pretty well established by this point that mahogany tops and Taylor guitars go together like bread and butter. Milk and honey. Difford and Tillbrook. It really doesn't matter if the back and side pairing is Sapele (as these were for a bit) or Tasmanian Blackwood (as they're built now)—the mild compression that mahogany brings to your attack results in a thick, rich tone.
That richness is always welcome on smaller guitars, which simply by virtue of their size risk losing a bit of meatiness. This 322 surprises with just a bit of depth to complement that meaty tone, making it a really versatile guitar that's also comfortable to play. That comfort is enhanced—at least for those of us on the wrong side of 50—by the 12-fret build, which brings the nut about an inch and a half close to the body. This one's a keeper.
