The A2+ is a beautiful speaker and the full rich sound is exceptional for the size and price. Highly recommended these to anyone who wants desk top or small room speakers.
I've owned the Audioengine A2+ for about 18 months now. They're usually hooked up to our television, but are sometimes used properly to play back music from iPhone/MP3 sources. They are an excellent performer overall. I would not use these speakers sans subwoofer for any full-range recordings, but they are very nice alone playing back acoustic and small ensemble tunes. They are able to perform extremely well in a standard stereo array--I was quite pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when I took the time to set them up in a near-field configuration. Very detailed and surprisingly good imaging.
I think the A2+ are an outstanding value--and Shoreline sometimes has even better deals on closeout customer returns. Even if you're paying regular price, though, the A2+ will serve you, and your music, very well.
I have a set of the AudioEngine A2 speakers that I purchased here at Shoreline a few years back. I had been used to the "department store" type computer speakers so I was pleasantly surprised to say the least when I plugged these little gems in to my Macbook Pro. They produce a surprisingly deep, rich bass with a clear, crisp high end that's so much better for listening to your music than through the computers built-in speakers. The set-up is quick and easy so we use these for our "multi-purpose speakers. If we want to play music or listen to a podcast in the kitchen, or anywhere else that we might not have speakers set-up these fit the need perfectly.
This past summer, we took these along on vacation and used them with our midi controller for live music at the lake. Awesome speakers -- don't let the size fool you.
