I still remember years ago when Taylor first announced they'd be offering a small run of 12-fret all-mahogany guitars. I ordered two, sight unseen. I knew they were going to a be a hit. And they were—the 522 quickly became our bestselling Taylor (it has since been surpassed by the Academy models).
The looks have changed a bit over the years, but the easy playability of a 12-fret Grand Concert hasn't. The tone, to my ears, is a bit beefier but less balanced than those original two guitars I ordered. The Grand Concert body survives the V-class changeover nicely, with good ring—honestly a bit of a rarity on an all-mahogany guitar—and liveliness.
