Taylor 412-R LTD

We dipped our toes in the shallow end of the pool of rosewood 400s last year with the Taylor 412-R, which I thought was Taylor's best model introduction of the year. So when they announced that they'd be revisiting the same guitars this spring—this time with an upgrade to Performance Bracing—that was a no-brainer.

The Grand Concert listed here is essentially identical to the one linked to above, with the exception of that Performance Bracing, which gives it just a dollop of bass-y meatiness to fill out an already versatile tone. Just as I did with the last 412-R, I have ordered this without any electronics, which means it can be had for a song. Granted, that's a $1499 song, but that ain't too bad for a solid rosewood guitar.

  • Grand Concert body shape
  • Sitka Spruce top over Rosewood back and sides
  • No onboard electronics
  • Includes Taylor hardshell case

Another great 400 series Taylor!

I've previously owned two other Taylor 400 series (410ce and 414ce FLTD) plus four other Taylor's (522e, 524e, GC7 & GC8). In my non-expert opinion, the 400 series is one of the best values in the Taylor line-up. This 412-R LTD is a wonderful instrument. The tone of the spruce over rosewood is rich, even in the smaller body size. The neck is very comfortable and the action is low. The response and note separation is very nice, especially when finger-picked. It's quite lively when strummed, with the highs and mids being dominant. The craftsmanship is pure Taylor - excellent fit and finish. I love this 412 and when it comes to customer service, Shoreline is top-notch! Quick response to emails and phone calls are handled by real people. I dealt with John on this guitar and he is truly a man of integrity. Excellent guitar and transaction with Shoreline!
