We always make sure to pick up some of Taylor's limited models because, well, they're limited, and it's nice to have a couple in the shop. Sometimes, the upgrades in the limited editions are mostly cosmetic, and you might be tempted to think so about the 2014 lineup, especially given the nice sunburst on this 514. But that's where you'd be wrong: While the look and trim of the guitar are indeed nice, it's the Tasmanian Blackwood that wins the day on this guitar. It gives the tone a sort of resonant crispness, probably most like the maple Taylors, but with a voice definitely all its own.
Plus, it's worth mentioning that the sunburst on these Fall Limiteds is different than Taylor's standard 'burst on, say, the 700 series. Whereas the look on the 700s is more of a teardrop, the design on the Fall Limiteds is more of a true sunburst, showing much more wood in the upper bout of the guitar, which is a look I far prefer.
