Who knew that the 522 12-Fret would become our bestselling Taylor? Well, I kind of guessed it—in fact, it's the only Taylor model I've ordered TWO First Edition models for. I knew it would be winner, but I had no idea how great it would sound or how popular it would become.
In my experience, all-mahogany guitars tend to darken the tone a bit, bringing out the mids. And 12-frets, by virtue of the lower placement of the bridge, tend to fill out and warm up otherwise brighter body styles. Putting these elements together in the smaller, more focused Grand Concert results in a remarkably balanced instrument.
The other cool thing about this guitar is that it gives you the best of both worlds—you get all the delicious tone of a 12-fret, but the cutaway adds the upper-fret access you'd normally get on a 14-fret model.
