There's no doubt that the initial draw of Taylor's 700 series guitars, at least in our shop, is the sunburst. They're pretty much the only acoustics in our shop with any paint, and as such they really stand out visually. That's why they're often the first guitar someone picks up when first entering our shop.
But what those customers find is a great Taylor rosewood guitar whose tone is even more winning than its looks. While the 700s may not boast all the under-the-hood upgrades of the 800s (but I predict they will someday soon), they're also $600 cheaper, and a great way to get your hands on the lushness of rosewood in a Taylor guitar.
