We sell a lot of custom Taylors (most never make it onto this site or into our videos), and the three most popular custom requests are: 1) Gotoh 510 tuners, 2) Adirondack bracing, and 3) arm bevel. I'm sure Taylor did some market research and wound up with the same results. So, when they decided to offer a modest upgrade to their top-selling 800 series, they put all three of these improvements on the new 800 Deluxe.
You know that I think the 812 (or perhaps the 912) has been Taylor's best production guitar since the 2014 update. So, natch, I went for an 812 for my first Deluxe model. The Adirondack bracing gives a modest increase in headroom—frankly not super-noticeable if you're playing mostly fingerstyle—but the functional improvement of the arm bevel (previously only a 900/Presentation offering) and the Gotoh tuners makes this a worthy upgrade, well worth a few extra bucks.
