I've said in other places that Taylors really benefit from some exotic tonewoods—but it needs to be the right woods. Cocobolo is one such wood—it's the wood we made most of our BTO Taylors out of before it was no longer available. The other wood that's guaranteed to make for a great Taylor is Macassar Ebony. It brings a zing and a chime that you don't get with generic rosewood.
But as good as Macassar is for Taylors, I never thought to pair it with cedar. That is, until my good friend Eric Sakimoto from Taylor Guitars walked in my front door with the guitar you see pictured here. It was so good, so full of life, clarity, thick tone and low-end richness that I bought it on the spot. The fact that Eric offered to shoot the demo video for this very instrument was only icing on the cake.
If you're in the market for a unique Taylor fingerstyler, this instrument is worth a serious look.
