Zoom A3

The Zoom A3 is a feature-packed effect pedal/DI/preamp that packs more into a sub-$200 pedal than any other similar device.

The A3’s pre-amp, specifically designed for acoustic guitars, can be used with piezoelectric, magnetic and passive pickups. In addition, the pedal’s XLR-1/4-inch combination Mic input, which can provide phantom power, allows you to connect a microphone and mix its signal with that of your pickup via dedicated knobs to dial-in your sound. The A3’s pre-amp section also features a 3-band EQ for adjusting your guitar tone according to your performance environment, a balance knob to set you effects mix, as well as a super-low noise design.

With a focus on spatial effects, including chorus, delay and reverb, the A3 offers over 40 acoustic guitar effects that can enhance the sound of your instrument. Other effects include compressors that suppress input peaks and even out sound levels, air effects that simulate the feeling of space from room tone, detuning effects that create the sound of a 12-string guitars and much more. You can use up to two effects simultaneously and order them as you like.

Great unit with surprise hidden features

While the initial programming can be a bit tedious, there is no complaint with actual live use of A3. The modeling and compliment of effects is pretty incredible when you consider the modest price. I purchased this unit to use with a new band. It does everything I need. There are a few internet criticism that only two effects can us used with a model simultaneously. However, what folks fail to acknowledge is that several of the 40 effects pedal models are dual effects that combine either reverb, chorus, or delay in one patch. So, I found no since limitation. Since with the dual models I was able to arrange 4 effects with a model! Also, the mic input feature was designed to provide a second source for the guitars. But, those clever engineers allow you to choose where In the effects chain that mic is inserted. So, I just plugged an SM58 in and ordered my effects so the reverb and mod came last, and moved the mic just ahead of it. The result? Guitar and vocal effects in one small stomp box that runs on batteries. Genius. There are other little features that I look forward to trying too.

Swiss Army Knife Pedal for Acoustic Guitar

Love this thing. Really lets you dial in the sound you want. The anti-feedback function works great, the boost button is a nice addition. It just does a ton of stuff that you'd have to buy separate pedals to get to. The only gripe I have is that it can be a bit difficult to figure out how to use, but as long as you're willing to sit down with the manual and mess around with it for a bit, you can figure it out, and it goes you a ton of options. You can also only use 2 effects, plus a guitar model at any given time. Still, tons of great sounding effects and options. I chose this over the Fishman Aura, and I'm glad I did!
