My very first handpan, from Daniels Made Handpans, had multiple notes on the bottom shell. They really do add to the music I still make on that instrument. But I discovered something the first time I tried to put it on a tripod: It was nearly impossible to position it so the tripod heads didn't hit (and therefore effectively eliminate) those bottom notes.
Surely, I thought, there must be some stand that will allow me access to those notes, and let them ring freely. After much searching, I came upon Atlas, and immediately fell in love. These stands perfectly solve the problem of bottom-note access, they're well made, versatile, and portable. The mounting head contains a ring of powerful magnets that anchor your instrument—this is a really nifty design.
It's worth noting that if you have a handpan tuned to a lower scale, it likely has a cone in the gu (the hole in the bottom), which almost certainly prevents the magnets from gripping your handpan. In that case, be sure to take a look at Pantam Stands; their wider tripod placement gives great access to lower notes.
