Battiloro handpans from Rome, Italy have an approach and a story that appeal to my sensibilities as a player and retailer. As with most builders, they began as enthusiasts. Their small shop of artisan builders uses a local steel variety called "ferro dolce" that gives each of their handpans a distinctive look and feel. Perhaps most interesting is their commitment to building around a 432Hz tuning, which some players contend gives the instrument a more harmonious and visceral feel. All I know is, they're a joy to play and they sound great.
