This handpan is part of Battiloro's Mutant lineup, which just means that it has more notes than the typical 8 or 9. The Argus model in a Saladin scale is quite an instrument: It's responsive (of course; it's a Battilloro), with a satisfying bit of extra ring in the notes that I don't hear on all Battiloros. And even with no tone fields on the bottom shell, there's still enough notes on the top—12!—to open up a whole world of music making.
The Saladin scale is very inviting, very versatile. It's probably closest to a harmonic minor, but when I'm playing, it feels like a cross between the Middle Eastern feel of a Hijaz and the more traditional Western feel of a standard Ionian / major scale. The chording possibilities on this feel endless, especially with those two bonus notes. You're going to love it.
