I think the Hijaz scale is probably the moodiest and most evocative handpan scale. Simply running a quick arpeggio puts you immediately in a space you've imagined (or maybe even seen) a hundred times. It's an ear-catching, drop-everything-and-listen kind of scale. When I've demoed handpans here in the shop, my first run of notes on a Hijaz always grabs the attention of everyone in the room.
The Hijaz from Battiloro is called the Hathor, and it does not disappoint. It has the amazing responsiveness of ferro dolce, a lovely light golden hue, and, as always, superb balance, responsiveness, and sustain.
