The Onoloeo scale is one of those scales that kind of sneaks up on you. Because of those half-step pairings throughout, it reminds me a bit of Hijaz, both on paper and in how it feels to play. But those major-third jumps to and from the B root note here really seem to add, well, major-ness. A sort of blend of the best of both worlds.
The first Onoleo I had the privilege to play—surprisingly, I find few builders making a lot of these—was on a Neotone. I thus knew I wanted to order an Onoleo from one of my acoustic builders, and when Marshall sent me the demo video (linked here to the left), it was an easy call. I pulled the trigger immediately.
This build from Daniels Made doesn't have any bottom notes, so it's among the more affordable from Marshall. But when you hear that sympathetic resonance lighting up as it plays, you'll wonder if it has twice as many notes. It's that good.
