I've been through every string I can think of over the last 35 years and these are my favourites. I initially thought the lack of a really "zingy" top end like uncoated would be a deal breaker, but it's an advantage. I do a lot of finger sliding and these feel perfect. Uncoated strings feel like they're grabbing my fingers now. Never had a manufacturing defect or poor intonation from any of their strings.
been using elixirs for about 5 years.tried many brands but always came back to these
love the longevity. strings sound great. Shoreline always treats you right and i love the free shipping.
Best strings to bring out the most out of the guitar!
These strings hold up well to moderate and heavy strumming. The extra light gauge works great for alternate tunings too. Guitar tends to stay in tune in between being played, even after longer periods of time. I have noticed some diminished sound after 3-4 weeks of consistent play, but overall, they hold up .
Personally, I do not like to be changing my strings every 2-3 weeks. As the owner of a Taylor 214ce DLX not only do these strings fit the voicing of my guitar but they sound good for a long time. I lead worship almost every week at my church and I can go a solid 2-3 months with these on my guitar playing almost every day. If you are looking for great sound and longevity they are absolutely worth double the price of non coated strings, especially with the deals at Shoreline.
Have used these strings for 10 years and 3-pack is just a miracle! And guys from shoreline and their monkeys will always make you smile!
Elixir's are what came with my Taylor and while I used to use the tried and true D'Addario EJ16's on other guitars because they were so economical and sounded good, I now spend the extra and go with Elixir's almost exclusively. I like the feel, the sound, the durability and lifespan. I've tried a variety of Elixirs from lights, HD lights, medium, nanoweb, polyweb, and while I like them all, I keep coming back to the HD Lights as my gauge of choice. This 3-pack is an awesome deal!
Have used these strings for years and really like them...Bright and long lasting..Must be the reason Taylor, Lowden, and others put them on as standard equipment,
.Highly recommend them....
In comparison to John Pearse Phosphor Bronze strings (be sure to check out my review there as well) I would say these strings are a little brighter, a bit less articulate, and not quite as full sounding. That being said these are great sounding strings that last a long time and to my untrained ear the differences in sound are not that far apart. As far as the feel of the strings go, although I'm used to uncoated strings I would say I slightly prefer the feel of these more smooth feeling strings. Also as far as cost goes the Elixirs win by about $4 based on them lasting 3x as long as John Pearse.
So as far as tone goes I prefer John Pearse over Elixirs, but as far as cost, feel, and longevity IMHO these strings do John's a little better. These are both great strings, and I would recommend you try them both. Also Shoreline has the very best prices for strings online and I can't think of a better place for shopping music.
I started using Elixir strings because they came highly recommended, and I have not been disappointed. I use the HD light strings on my Taylors, and they sound great and last months. The 3-pack offer is such a great deal! Elixir strings and Shoreline Music - awesome combination!!!
I love Elixirs. They seem to last for a solid month or two with every day playing. Sometimes I can squeeze another month out of them. They maintain their tone throughout this time as well. If you hate changing strings like I do, I highly recommend them. I've tried several non-coated and coated brands in my 25 years of playing, and this is the brand I come back to every time.
I've been using Elixirs on my acoustics for about 5 years now. Bought the extra lights 10-47's to use on my T5Z Classic to get a better acoustic guitar sound as opposed to an electric guitar sound. Works perfect, feels great and the best part is that it'll last for a lot more gigs than the average.
These strings may not be my absolute favourite sounding strings, but they do sound pretty darn good, especially when they're a week or two old! Sure they're slightly more expensive but when you take into account the longevity you get compared with other strings, they're in another league. I perform 2-3 times every weekend and sometimes over 5-6 hrs and in very close proximity to the ocean, sometimes on the beach! On average I get sometimes 2 months out of a set! Incredible. In my opinion, that makes them well worth the $$. Highly recommended for both busy musicians and people who don't play all that often as they just last.
In my experience, Elixirs sound good when you first put them on but sound even better after they're on a bit and "played-in". They have that nice, bright sound that a lot of folks really like when putting on new strings. The difference is that it lasts, and lasts, and lasts.
I play fingerstyle guitar, a lot, and though most people are impressed by the way they feel on your fretting hand, I find it makes a difference on right hand nail longevity, as well. I do like the fact that you don't get the "string zing" that's normally inherent in uncoated strings, though that's not a terribly big issue for me.
If you like to change strings - don't buy Elixirs. If you want a great sounding and feeling string that lasts a LONG time, then Elixirs just might be your favorite string.
These are a little expensive, but they retain nice, bright tone forever! They're a little more expensive than other strings, but so worth it for how long they last. The phosphor bronze are a bit softer sounding and more mellow than the 80/20's, but they're both great strings. Love em!
not the brightest sounding string made, but time after time, it lasts 4 times as long as the nearest other company. No finger squeak and super comfortable to play. I try every new string that comes along and always come right back to Elixir. Buy them here, great guys and great support.
