Amara is a really fun tuning, and this handpan has a lot of music in it. If you've never encountered the term "mutant" before, this just describes an instrument that squeezes several extra notes onto the upper shell of the handpan. So, whereas a traditional handpan will feature somewhere between six and nine notes in a ring, with a center ding, the mutant models usually have those same notes, plus some high notes up near the ding. Some builders—Battiloro and Daniels Made do this a lot—add notes on the lower shell.
It can take a little getting used to making the higher notes on a mutant ring, but once you do, you'll find that your melodies can really expand.
Please note: The video demo from MAG included here features the 20-note version of this handpan.
