  • "Legacy Guitars" are those builders I've sold in the past but no longer keep in stock. I'm keeping them in place on the site because I still love the guitars and hope you will, too. Read more here.

  • Shure SM58

There's not much that can be said about the Shure SM-58 that hasn't been said already. For nearly 50 years it has been the microphone of choice for the world's top bands, and a fixture on stages large and small. I honestly can't remember the last time I was at an open mic or playing in a church that didn't have at least a couple of these mics at the ready. The ubiquity of the SM-58 is not hard to understand: It's responsive and dynamic, and rugged enough to handle the rigors of regular stage use. Plus, after all these years, it's still only $99. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better mic for under a hundred bucks, and I recommend this without reservation

    • Frequency response tailored for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass rolloff
    • Uniform cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source and minimizes background noise
    • Pneumatic shock-mount system cuts down handling noise
    • Effective, built-in spherical wind and pop filter
    • Supplied with break-resistant stand adapter which rotates 180 degrees
    • Cardioid (unidirectional) dynamic
    • Frequency response: 50 to 15,000 Hz

Nobody ever got fired for choosing an SM58

While not the fanciest dynamic microphone in my arsenal, I consider this sturdy workhorse indispensable. There's a reason it's the standard!
