Larrivee OM-05

I've always thought of the OM-05 as the essential Larrivee. Yes, the L-body probably best captures the original Larrivee sound, and you'll never hear a bad word out of my mouth about that guitar. But the focus, clarity and punch that the mahogany and smaller design impart are a really good match for Larrivee's balanced build. With just a bit more emphasis on note fundamentals, the OM-05 can be a great singer's guitar or fingerstyler.

Plus, the Canadian builders always seem to have the most gorgeous mahogany—when we have a bunch of mahogany guitars in the shop, it's obvious which come from north of the 49th parallel (yes, I know that Larrivees are built in Oxnard now, but the guitars still have better-looking mahogany than just about anyone else other than Northwood).

Larrivee OM-05: A Superlative Experience

My OM-05 arrived recently, and I'm a little embarrassed by how it has drawn me away from my other guitars. The instrument looks like a supermodel, all sleek and glowing with its figured woods and smooth, glossy finish. I've never seen a prettier example of mahogany. The Sitka spruce top on my guitar has Bearclaw figuring, and it's such a regular pattern, it appears like a waterfall. Flamed maple binding jumps out at every viewing angle. The JCL logo tuners add a functional touch of class, smooth and unobtrusive in operation so you can get in tune and stay there.
When I pick up my OM-05, it feels lightweight and balanced. This body style hugs the person and is so easy to handle, and the guitar reverberates against the player. The neck profile just works for me, slim enough to make the 1.75" nut work well for grabbing a familiar chord. It's going to be a joy for fingerpicking and rhythm alike. The tone is loud, balanced across the strings, and surprisingly has lots of overtones for a mahogany guitar. The highs are pure, not thin. The lows are full and authoritative. Overall, the tone of this guitar is satisfying for a broad range of music. I'm delighted with my OM-05!
