Audioengine HD3

  • Just when I thought Audioengine could not up their game any further—you simply won't find a better speaker line under $500—they decided to squeeze their HD6 into a smaller, more desktop-ready package. The result? The HD3 is the best speaker Audioengine has ever built.

Consider what you get:  Start with the relaxed, neutral tone of the HD6, and shrink it to a smaller, desktop-compatible size. Throw in some amazing imaging (that's the first thing you'll notice when you plug these in), and add a USB DAC, keep the APTX Bluetooth receiver, and add a headphone preamp. Are you kidding me? Seriously, these would be worth every penny for the tone and imaging, and I'd still be bragging on them with none of those extras. But Audioengine has really outdone themselves with this speaker, and even though you might be thinking you really don't need a new desktop speaker, the HD3 is bound to change your mind.

Audioengine HD3 Speakers

Shoreline Music was great to work with on the purchase of a pair of Audioengine HD3 desktop speakers. These full featured speakers sound fantastic. They have great specs and are obviously well designed and well built. They are a definite step up in quality from my old Bose Companion 2 Series II's. Shoreline gave me a great deal and their communication throughout the transaction was excellent. Delivery was quick and I could not be more happy with my purchase. Thank you!

Very nice desktop speakers upgrade

I'm very satisfied with purchasing the Audioengine HD3. I chose the HD3 because of the consistent excellent on-line reviews, the compact size to fit on my small desk, and the bluetooth capability. They replaced the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 that was acting flaky after a dozen years of service. In comparing the sound differences between the two, the Klipsch seem to emphasize the trebles while the HD3's midrange was more upfront. The HD3's bass is satisfying for most music, especially acoustic guitar instrumentals. I only really notice the low bass missing in some of my favorite rock & R&B tracks, so adding the S8 subwoofer might be the next upgrade. One quirk using the USB input that's worth mentioning is the volume fade-up when the audio starts. It doesn't do that using the Bluetooth connection. Also kudos to Shoreline for the very quick delivery.
