Avalon L220C

  • The L220C is a spruce/rosewood jumbo, but I suppose it's really a jumbo in name only—there's no stretching or straining to reach around to the strings. I find it as easy to play as most of the small jumbo-ish guitars we have in the shop, like the Northwood MJ, or the Mcilroy A (it is within 1/4" of both these guitars).

The tone on the L220C is solid and balanced. Chunky, ringy lows are complemented by solid mids and lively highs. Note definition and intonation are great up and down the neck. It is super-responsive to a light touch, giving it the kind of dynamic range we have come to expect from the best Irish guitars. It's great for standard-tuned fingerstyle, DADGAD, or strumming. After a few seconds with this guitar in your hands, it's easy to see why it's Avalon's bestseller.

Moreover, if you're a fan of modern worship music, you've no doubt heard this guitar many times without knowing it. It's the guitar Chris Tomlin plays on Arriving, and it's Robin Mark's guitar on  Revival in Belfast and his other records.
