The A220C is a remarkable instrument. Build quality is top-notch, tonewoods are beautiful, and the aesthetic appointments are simple yet tasteful. As for sound, this guitar has a loud and powerful voice, and it has what feels like unlimited headroom. This thing is a beast when you ask it to be, and it won't back down if you really dig in. I play mainly rhythm style with a flatpack in a small group of other acoustic instruments, and this Avalon has plenty of volume and punch; the guitar really holds its own in the mix. With that said, it's still remarkably well-mannered, and very responsive to a light touch. Notes ring out beautifully up and down the fretboard, and there's plenty of sustain and a sweet richness in the tone. It's a slightly heavier build than my Northwood, and it's not the bassiest guitar I've played... but it feels well-balanced and still gives a satisfying resonance against the body like a quality guitar should. As with any guitar, I suspect it will open up even more as it ages. Playability is excellent, and the neck is super comfortable. It came from the shop with a great setup--perfect for my playing style. Oh, and it comes with a really nice Hiscox case too. Highly recommended!
This is a big, solid, loud, expressive guitar with more than a touch of sweetness about it. Extremely well made, it compares easily with Collings, etc. in build quality. The finish and tasteful appointments are elegant and understated. So far, it seems to be string sensitive and will require experimenting. Came with RXPs that I found too strident for my taste. YMMV, (A couple of alternative string sets were included by Shoreline. Thanks!) May have to do a bit of action adjustment once the string thing is worked out, The 1.75+ width neck is hand filling and somewhat thicker than many competitors. John at Shoreline extolled the merits of this guitar for fingerstylists and DADGAD folks. I agree, but for me, the L220 really opened up and roared like a demon once a flatpick was applied in standard tuning. This is a stunning strumming and cross-picking instrument for all genres! Thanks for your attention...!
