One of the best parts of this work is New Handpan Day. When I opened up my most recent shipment of Battiloros, it of course included some old favorites. But the Persephone was new to me, and it instantly became my favorite Battiloro, for all the usual reasons—great responsiveness and balance, satisfying low ding, lovely look and feel.
But I think the thing that most appealed to me about this one was the scale. On paper it's a pretty ordinary minor scale, not unlike the Demyan. But there's something about this blend of notes that just feels so lively to me. The melodies just seem to flow out when I'm playing this particular model. I feel like this is incredibly versatile as a result, ideal for beginner and expert alike. Yes, a beginner might need to grow into the four notes on the bottom shell, but isn't that what we all strive to do as players?
