This instrument was the very first Ki handpan that I played, and it still really sings to me. It feels like a flagship instrument, the star of Kim's lineup. Before this I had never played a Witching Hour, and I dig this scale. It's a standard natural minor, but that minor-making third, the G, only shows up once on the bottom of the scale, which makes for some lively major-ish music at the higher end. It really is the perfect jamming instrument.
Kim has said that higher-pitched scales are where she's most at home as a builder, and if this handpan is any guide, I'm inclined to agree. It is so full of life, with notes that are saturated—which is to say they're lively, fat, not clinical—that I can't wait to play more handpans just like this one.
Note also the fun visual designs that Kim is throwing on her instruments. I'm a fan.
