Larrivee OM-02

  • So here's a little fun fact you may not know about the Larrivee OM-02:  It is identical to the OM-03 in every way. Well, except one—instead of a herringbone soundhole rosette, the OM-02 has a plain rosette. It's otherwise an OM-03, which is already a fine instrument. Given that this is essentially the same guitar at a better price, why don't you see a gazillion of these OM-02s at Larrivee dealers everywhere?

From what I can tell, the OM-02 is the Larrivee gateway drug. They intentionally get you hooked on that rich, balanced Larrivee tone at a great price, expecting that you'll eventually turn your eyes toward an upgrade. But here's a little secret:  This guitar is good enough to be your main instrument, ready for hours of play time, perhaps many more hours onstage with a K&K Pure Mini. It really is that good. No upgrade necessary.

Rings Like a Bell

Many moons ago I played a very fine cello, so I'm pretty obsessed with tone. Recently, I fell in love with the guitar and have been playing classical, but I wanted a steel strung guitar for playing Celtic music, so I chose the Larrivee OM-02. I play fingerstyle without nails and the clear, lovely, ringing tone of the treble strings is amazing. The bass strings add just the right amount of drone. It's all very balanced. I expected a nice playable guitar but not this nice! Also, I really like the matte finish and ebony fretboard, qualities that this guitar shares with the cello. Thank you Jean Larrivee for building this guitar and to the folks at Shoreline Music for getting out the word on these instruments. The beautiful tone is exactly as promised.
